The Three Core Principles of
6 Advisors™
Principle #1: You
are not your thoughts. You are not your Advisors.
All
of us have “advisors” in our lives. Some are friends,
co-workers, bosses, parents, mentors, coaches, and even
paid consultants. Some of our advisors may be very
competent, helpful and supportive; others however, may
not be. Some may think it’s their job is to tell us what
to think and do; others may even try to tell us how we
should live our lives. YOU can choose to listen to or
ignore these advisors. They are just advisors.
You also have
6
Advisors™ in your mind – six very different and unique
thought processes that influence your decisions,
beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and emotions. We each
have somewhere between 10,000 to 60,000 thoughts per
day. Some researchers believe that over 90% of these
thoughts are the same thoughts we had yesterday and the
day before that. Repeated thoughts become “habits” of
thinking. These habits may, but often don’t, serve us
well.
These are just
'Advisors'. YOU (as the 'Chairman of the Board') can
choose to listen to or ignore these Advisors, just like
the other “advisors” in your life. YOU are not these
Advisors. As a human being, YOU have the unique capacity
to step back and observe your Advisors and assess the
quality of the advice YOU are getting.
Principle #2: YOU
have the power to choose.
A choice is only a
choice when we know we have one. Unfortunately, some of
our 6 Advisors™ would like us to believe that we don’t
have choices. This might be okay if the advice were
always balanced and in YOUR best interest.
However, and far too
often, the advice is tainted by inaccurate, negative,
harmful or even destructive thoughts about past
experiences. If we choose to follow this advice it can
sabotage our efforts in making good and balanced
decisions.
You are not your
Advisors, and therefore, you can, if you choose, step
back and listen, and then make choices that are most
aligned with who YOU choose to become. Moreover and most
importantly, nothing is going to change in your life
until you become aware that you are not your Advisors
and that you do have a choice to think differently.

YOU sit at the head of
the table. YOU are in charge of the meeting that runs in
your mind. YOU can be in charge of your thoughts. YOU
can choose which 'advice' you want to listen to.
Principle #3:
Success is a conscious choice.
Throughout
every day there are critical moments when our success or
failure will be determined by the choices we make. We
call these moments in time Pivotal Moments™. Learning to
recognize these Pivotal Moments™ and then making better
choices is the key to success. Do we choose to let
unbalanced Advisors control our lives or do we choose to
be in control?
At every Pivotal
Moment™ YOU make the choice of what you will do or not
do, how you will act or react, what you will believe and
what you will communicate.
